ASUS has not wanted to be less than Acer. If the latter presented a few hours ago its first laptop with a screen capable of supporting refresh rates of 300 Hz , it is now ASUS that bets the same with its new ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX701 .
These teams therefore pose an attractive option for gamers and leave behind the 144 and 240 Hz panels that had accompanied this type of gaming equipment for months. The bestial refreshment frequency, remember, is important, but its real value may not be as clear as it seems at first glance.
Long live the hertz
The relevance of having a screen with a high refresh rate is key for many gamers , who are seeking at least access to 144 Hz monitors on their PCs and panels with support for at least that frequency on their laptops.
Rog Zephyrus S Gx701 31 1 Work Lighting
Things have skyrocketed in recent times, and from the milestones in the creation of 120, 144 or amazing 240 Hz panels, we now turn to 300 Hz panels that could become the new great market claim.
The ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX701 is with the Acer team the first to take that step. That is the big difference with respect to the previous version, which had a 144 Hz screen and therefore falls far behind if what the user is looking for is the maximum refresh rate possible .
As with the Acer equipment, this laptop has a panel with a response time of 3 ms GtG (Gray to Gray), and that same panel will end up arriving in the 15 and 17-inch models of the ROG Strix Scar III and also in a prototype of the ROG Zephyrus S GX502.
All these equipments will have factory calibrated panels and Pantone validation, which will guarantee color accuracy and can be an interesting claim for those who work with video editing or post-image processing.
Even with the fantastic RTX 2080 we will not see everything at 300 Hz
To be able to match that screen we will need a powerful graphics, and here ASUS offers the best option we could have: an RTX 2080 with a maximum working frequency of 1,230 MHz . That Turbo mode consumes 100W, but it will be important to try to deliver those 300 frames per second in games that we play and with which we want to be able to enjoy that exceptional refresh rate that the team presumes.
That, as we explained in the Acer model with 300 Hz display, will not be the norm. It is rare that the graphics can generate those 300 frames per second except in games with quite modest visual requirements, and in many titles the normal thing with this graphic, one of the most powerful in the world, is to be below 150 or 200 FPS in Especially demanding titles at the graphic level.
Even so, this working frequency always gives more room for maneuver, and its joint work with NVIDIA G-SYNC technology will allow for no visual conflicts in the user experience such as tearing or fragmentation of images. If the graph cannot give us 300 FPS nothing happens, the panel adjusts at all times to what the GPU can give of itself so that both are synchronized and the experience is fluid.
This technology joins the use of NVIDIA Optimus to deactivate the dedicated graphics if we do not need it (for example to navigate or work with office documents without more), and a cooling system called Active Aerodynamic System will be responsible for keeping temperatures under control.
Price and availability of ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX701
The new ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX701 will be available next October , but we have no data on its price. We do know that the manufacturer is preparing the arrival of 300 Hz panels to other machines of the ROG family from 2020.
